What is Ask the Doctor?
Ask the Doctor is an online Question and Answer service that you offer to your patients free of charge. If the patient has a computer, they have 24-hour access to information about their treatment. How many times has a patient left the office and then remembered some questions? Your patient gets home and family and friends begin giving him the SCOOP on the treatment plan that you just presented…rumor, opinion and hearsay!

Now your patients can go to an online resource affiliated with your practice and get professional answers to their questions. If it saves you one phone call, what would that be worth to you? If it allows a patient to rest comfortably the night before surgery, what would it be worth to the patient and you?

Who Can Use Ask the Doctor?
Ask the Doctor is a program available to the dentists who subscribe to SDS's Online Dental Consulting Service (ODCS). By subscribing to the ODCS you will be enabling your patients 24-hour access via the Doctor/Patient ID to pre-approved dental information.

Accessing Through the Doctor/Patient ID
The Doctor/Patient ID is an access number given to the patients by the dentist who has subscribed to the Online Dental Consulting Service. Each Doctor/Patient ID is uniquely defined for the dentist and his patients, enabling the patients to view information customized for the dentist's practice.

Once your patients have 'your' Doctor/Patient ID, they can access the site for answers to their after-hours dental questions regarding upcoming procedures or ongoing treatment. The Frequently Asked Questions program might answer your patients' common questions OR your patients can submit their own questions to the SDS faculty and dentists. The ODCS subscribing dentists have the option of customizing the information that their patients review and will receive email copies of all their patients' correspondence with SDS.

Treatment Information
Your patients can select general information about proposed treatment or request more specific information that has been approved by the dentist who is providing the treatment and access to the site.

General information about a treatment may include:
  • General explanation of the treatment
  • Why treatment is necessary
  • What to expect if delayed or postponed
  • What to expect if canceled
  • What to expect if surgery is performed
  • Explanation of the myths or hearsay of their treatment
Specific information about a treatment may include:

Doctor Approval of Specific Information
The ODCS subscribing dentists may submit specific information that they want their patients to see and/or download. All information must follow the standards of good practice and professional care.

If information in the general category does not meet with approval of the ODCS subscriber, SDS will make efforts to correct, modify or replace the information. Final decision will be at the discretion of SDS, LLC and may result in refunding of subscription.
